Injecting a living ecosystem through landscaping along busy urban roads
Mohakhali road is an important arterial road that connects two very busy commercial areas. Along Mohakhali road are commercial and educational highrises, which generate a lot of traffic and pedestrian activities.
An attempt was taken to document the current exact conditions of the street. Pedestrians were frequently disrupted by broken pavements and dirt deposition. Many temporary vendors activate the edges and occupy the walking areas, making the narrow pedestrian difficult to navigate.
During the documentation, we pointed out that the WASA water reservoir zone has an empty unused open area, bounded by brick walls. We proposed to utilise the open space and revive it as a breakout area for the students, office goers and pedestrians of the area. The temporary commercial activities could then be accommodated here.
A vertical garden could be introduced by using the structure of the overhead water reservoir, bring nature within the grays of a city.
