Mud houses and life at a village

Bengali mud houses with thatched roofs have been a matter of inspiration ephemerally. I took the opportunity to sketch and photograph the proportions, materials, details, and weaving patterns that dominate.

However, these types of vernacular architecture are not given much value, and are losing their presence as they are being engulfed by shabby brick houses.

The people living within the “uthaans” (courtyards) of these mud houses have a close knit community.

They are lively, colorful though poor, and are more human and natural
